SOLAR POLLEN

While painting this piece I had no idea of the myths and symbols behind chrysanthemum flowers, just a strong feeling that the scene is connected the Sun, and the Sun particles spread to all gloomy corners. While preparing to publish it I've researched that a chrysanthemum is indeed an old Asian symbol of the Sun, a rejuvenation, and is connected to Japanese Sun goddess Amaterasu, that is not only born out of the left eye, but also had a pretty narcissistic weakness for mirrors 👁🌸

Amaterasu caught a faint glimpse of her reflection in the mirror,
and as she emerged of her hiding place to see more of her own beauty,
the world has become illuminated by the Sun again.
Acrylic on canvas, 40x40cm. Commissioned.
